Maya civilization

The Mayas were a Mesoamerican civilization. Initially established during the Pre-Classic period (c. 2000 BC to AD 250), according to the Mesoamerican chronology, many Mayan cities reached their highest state of development during the Classic period (c. AD 250 to 900), and continued throughout the Post-Classic period until the arrival of the conquistadores. They are recognized as the only civilization known for having their own written language before the cnquistas. They are well known for their art, architecture, mathematical and astronomical systems.

Mayan Calendar
The Maya calendar was constructed around 250-900 BC. The calendar finishes in 2012, which many speculate was the end of the world for the Mayan civilization.

Maya Artisans (Artesanias)
Mayan's were known for their skilled artisan work.

The Mayan language family
The language family was well documented. In the chart below it shows all of the different languages that fall under the umbrella of the Mayan empire. The interesting fact is how the different languages or dialects that derive from the Proto-Mayan directly then become a basis for other languages and so on.
